YOUR EYE EXAM

While one of the main aims of an eye test is to establish whether you need glasses or contact lenses for clear and comfortable vision, an equally important aim is the careful inspection of the interior and exterior of your eyes to check for good ocular and general health. An eye test can lead to the early detection of general health conditions such as high blood pressure, or diabetes.

Depending on your individual requirement we will carry out the following as part of your eye test.

• Establish a full eye and general health history and details of any visual difficulties that you are experiencing.
• Record your current standard of vision without glasses or contact lenses, or with your present pair (if worn).
• Carry out and record a full external and internal examination or your eyes.
• Carry out an 'objective' eye test (one which does not require any questions) and a 'subjective' eye test in which you will be asked to help 'fine tune' a lens specification (your prescription) for comfortable vision.
• Check how your eyes co-ordinate as a pair and that your pupil reactions are normal.
• Check your focusing ability to etablish whether separate prescriptions are required for close range or medium range vision.
• Carry out any additional tests, as part of the full examination, which are indicated by your symptoms, or your family eye history, or from observation of your eyes. These can include a check of eye pressure, dilating your pupils with eye drops, checking sideways field of vision or colour vision.
• When the test has been completed we will summarize the findings for you and give you the opportunity to ask any questions.
• We will give you a written statement as to whether glasses or contact lenses are required and a copy of your prescription (if you need one). Plus recommendations for your future eye care related to your occupation, hobbies and llifestyle.
